River & Rowing Museum, Henley-on-Thames

SCHOOLS

An 'Oar-Inspiring' Resource to Add to Your Classroom
Throughout the River & Rowing Museum an environment has been created in which children's imagination will be aroused by what they see and discover. Our extensive collection provides an invaluable resource for teachers and pupils.

The museum galleries are suited to the study of several areas of the curriculum including, Geography, Science and Design and Technology. There is something for all age groups at all key stages; from key stage one where simple interactives explain how a mill wheel is turned or real boats can be explored at first hand, to displays explaining the water cycle, water treatment and the supply of drinking water or the properties of materials such as iron, wood or fibre glass used to build boats.

Education Centre and Facilities
In addition to the
public galleries, the museum building includes specific education areas, including a dedicated schools room, cloakroom, toilets and lunch room. The museum is set beside the river in beautiful meadow park land offering many opportunities for field work. Marsh lock is a short walk away and demonstrations can be arranged to show the lock in operation. Boat trips of about an hour between Marsh and Hambledon locks along the Henley reach can be booked through the museum.

Teachers Pack
Teachers support and resource packs targeted to specific keys stages and curriculum areas will be made available to teachers who are planning visits. All teachers wishing to make a booking with the museum will be invited on a pre-visit to meet education staff to discuss and plan their visit.

Teaching Resources for Key Stage Two
In the first year of opening the museum will offer a programme of bookable events and support to Key Stage Two in particular. The main curriculum areas covered will be;
